Trim Levels (Exterior)
There are two models for the 2023 Volvo XC40: B4 and B5, with three equipment levels that can be added. Those equipment levels are the Core, Plus, and Ultimate. Among the standard features are a panoramic moonroof and a power tailgate, along with several paint color options, such as Bright Dusk, Onyx Black, and Sage Green. If you opt for the Plus, you'll find a black high-gloss front grille with a chrome frame and a laminated panoramic moonroof with a power sunshade.
Engine (Power)
No matter which configuration you opt for, it will have the same engine powering the 2023 Volvo XC40. That engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition, every XC40 includes a 48-volt hybrid system, hence the mild hybrid. For the B4, this combination will garner 194 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, while the B5 version makes 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
An exciting drive with impressive performance awaits you with the 2023 Volvo XC40. Front-wheel drive is the standard, but you can opt for an all-wheel drive if that's better suited to your needs. If you want to pull a small camper, boat, ATV, or trailer, you can, thanks to the maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. Fuel economy is superb thanks to the mild hybrid technology, getting you an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway, allowing you to stay on the road and away from the pump.
Interior
The 2023 Volvo XC40 features seating for five, with cutting-edge infotainment technology, plush comfort, and plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Go with the Core package, and you get mid-level illumination, premium textile upholstery, Urban Grid aluminum decor, and a tailored Charcoal sport steering wheel. Selecting the Plus adds a glossy black tunnel console, Driftwood decor, a crystal gear selector knob, and aluminum Volvo tread plates. The Ultimate package gets you a Harman Kardon premium sound system, Google built-in, and an air-ventilated subwoofer. Foldable rear seats give you the ability to increase cargo space, while a cargo area divider, hooks that flip down from the glovebox that are ideal for holding small bags, and a removable garbage bin in the center console help keep you organized.
Safety Features
Many advanced driver assistance and safety features are available for the 2023 Volvo XC40. Features include a cross-traffic alert with auto brake support, a steering assist system that will vibrate and correct your steering if you drift out of your lane, a blind spot information system, and a 360-degree parking camera. In addition, there's a center lane detection system and a collision avoidance system with detection for large animals, cyclists, and pedestrians.
