Trim Levels (Exterior)

With six trim levels to choose from, the exterior features of your RAV4 are quite customizable. The base-level LE comes with features like 17-inch steel wheels with covers, LED headlights, and tinted rear privacy glass. Upgrade to the XLE, and you get alloy wheels along with heated side mirrors and roof rails.

At the XLE Premium trim level, the wheels get a significant upgrade to a 19-inch chrome alloy design, and it features a power moonroof standard. With the Adventure trim, the upgrades are mostly off-road-oriented, including 8.6 inches of ground clearance, active shutters on the grille, and raised black roof rails. The TRD Off-Road takes this even further with red-painted shocks, jounce bumpers, and a TRD-stamped steel front skid plate. Finally, the Limited offers Bi-LED projector-style headlights and side mirror puddle lights.

Engine (Power)

All models of the RAV4 have the same engine, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder model. It offers 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque on regular 87-octane gasoline. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission and comes standard with front-wheel drive, though you can upgrade to all-wheel drive even from the base trim level. Keep in mind that efficiency tends to vary depending on the type of drivetrain and trim level you opt for, though the power stays the same.

Performance

Being behind the wheel of the RAV4 feels like you're in command of the road whether it's a proper street or an off-road trail. The AWD system that's standard on the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models is designed to help maximize traction in hazardous road conditions and off-road conditions. Plus, the RAV4 boasts a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds on the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models. The rest of the lineup has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

Interior

Inside the RAV4, you'll find an interior that offers generous space for passengers and cargo alike. One of the more notable features is the handy shelf that spans the dashboard and is useful for storing small items to take on your journeys. The technology is also quite impressive thanks to the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, though that can be upgraded to a larger 10.5-inch display if you like. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, too, along with 4G LTE mobile hotspot capability.

Safety Features

Toyota has always been at the forefront of automotive safety, and the new RAV4 is no exception to that legacy. Quite a few driver assistance features come standard from the base-level trim, including adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Even automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection is standard. Some of the options you can upgrade to include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
