Trim Levels (Exterior)

The entry-level Tradesman comes with 18-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, black bumpers, and heated, power-adjustable side mirrors. The Big Horn has 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and chrome bumpers, while the Rebel has LED lighting, all-terrain tires, and an upgraded suspension. Choose the Laramie for power-folding side mirrors and additional exterior chrome trim or the Limited Longhorn for 20-inch alloy wheels and side steps. The Limited adds power-deployable running boards, and the TRX has flared fenders and a performance exhaust.

Engine (Power)

The base engine for the RAM 1500 is a 3.6-liter V-6 with 305 horsepower. There's a 5.7-liter V-8 with 395 horsepower if you want to bump up the power, or you can get it with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 that churns out 260 horsepower. The TRX has its own powertrain. It uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that delivers 702 horsepower and can accelerate from zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds.

Performance

All the RAM engines work with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all trims except the TRX come with rear-wheel drive and offer four-wheel drive as an option. The TRX comes standard with the four-wheel-drive system. When properly equipped, the RAM 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds. The RAM has an excellent suspension, giving it one of the smoothest rides you can find in a pickup truck.

Interior

There's room for up to six in the RAM 1500's larger cabs. The Big Horn comes with cloth upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, but you can get leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a heated steering wheel in the midlevel and higher-end trims. Heated and reclining rear seats are also available. The Laramie has an 8.4-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, along with satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bump up to the Limited for a 12-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, and navigation. A 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo is an available option depending on the trim.

Safety Features

The 2023 RAM 1500 comes standard with a rearview camera and trailer sway damping. The Tradesman offers an option to add a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning, while stepping up to the Big Horn gets you the option to add packages with advanced safety systems, including front and rear parking sensors and a head-up display. The higher trims offer several advanced driver aids, including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with mitigation, an automated parking system, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera.
